What does it mean to become “developed in body” without making the body the basis of our happiness? In this Dhamma talk, Bhante Joe explores the Buddha’s teaching on keeping the mind within its proper range through mindfulness of the body and the Satipaṭṭhānas. Using the simile of the monkey caught in tar, Luangta Mahā Bua’s “prison world,” body-part contemplation, and reflections on sensual pleasure, he explains how danger, gratification, and escape can be seen more clearly. The discussion also covers asubha meditation, the 32 parts of the body, impermanence, breath awareness, and practical ways to keep the body in mind throughout daily life. By developing this kind of Buddhist practice, meditation can lead toward greater discernment, inner peace, and freedom from dependence on changing bodily experience.
