Monastery Information Submission Page


This page provides information on how to submit new listings for monasteries and centers, as well as how to correct existing entries.

To submit information:

  1. About a new listing for a monastery or center.
  2. To correct an error in a listing about a monastery or center.

Please follow the instructions below.

New Monastery or Center

To submit information about a new monastery or center, please break your submission down into the following categories. It is still possible to make a submission if one does not have information for every category. The most important categories are the ‘area’, ‘name’, ‘description’, and ‘location / directions’ categories.

  1. Area: Choose from the areas / districts listed below.
  2. Name: Name of the monastery or institution.
  3. Affiliation: Which nikāya or group is it affiliated with? (e.g., Waturawila, Galduwa)
  4. General Description: below are potential points of description.
    • Kutis: How many kutis are there?
    • Monks: How many monks usually stay?
    • Cleanliness: Is the place clean?
    • Food: What’s the food like?
    • Atmosphere: What’s the atmosphere for practice like?
    • Pindapata: Is pindapata allowed?
    • Focus: What’s the focus of the monastery? Study? Practice? Teaching?
    • Seclusion: Is it secluded?
    • Lay People: Do many lay people come?
    • General Experience: A general description of what it’s like to stay there.
  5. Location / Directions: Provide a Google Maps ‘pin’ location and / or directions to come by bus, if available.
  6. Contact: If possible, include the telephone number, email, and if possible, the name of the abbot or other relevant contact person for inquiries about staying. Contact details are optional, but useful.
  7. Other: Any additional information, such as a website or other relevant details about the monastery.

Correct a Listing

To correct an error in a listing:

  1. Copy and paste the incorrect information into a word processor or similar tool, then edit it with the correct details.
  2. Send an email via the contact page to Bhante Joe, including the name of the monastery, the error in the listing, and the corrected information. This will help to allow for quick and efficient updates.
